NPH Commitment Letter 2018-2019
Speech team is FUN and exciting way to learn valuable public speaking and presentation skills, while representing St. Catherine School as a team member. Students in grades 6-8 are eligible to participate. There are weekly speech practices on Monday, 3:00-4:15 pm. Members of the Speech Team will have the opportunity to compete in three speech tournaments with other Catholic school students throughout the winter months. Eighth grade participants can compete for high school scholarships at the hosting school. Participation in speech team builds important skills that benefit students on many levels. For example, speech students develop confidence and poise while building skills such as: articulation of thought and words, voice projection, inflection, and tone, and eye contact and pacing. All of the skills developed through speech are applicable in every content/subject area and will help students in their academic endeavors. Speech participation also adds an impressive credential to include on high school applications!
