SCRIP
Scrip is one of the biggest fund raisers
at St. Catherine School. It is an easy way to raise funds without spending
any extra money.
Here’s how it works:
Parents, staff, parishioners, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives
purchase gift certificates from St. Catherine PTO (Parent Teacher Organization)
for stores where they already shop. The school gets a percentage of the
face value of the gift certificates from the store. The percentage varies
from 3-15%, with an average of about 5%. So, for example, if you purchase
a $50 Safeway gift certificate, you get $50 worth of groceries and St.
Catherine’s get $2.50. Those dollars add up quickly! Last year,
the Scrip program earned over $12,000. The money earned is used to contribute
to the general operating budget for the school as well as pay for special
projects.
You may purchase Scrip several different
ways:
1.) Place an order through the order form that comes home every two
weeks. This form includes over 70 merchants for groceries, clothing,
travel, restaurants, etc. Orders placed with this method have about

2.) Set up a “standing order” for grocery scrip that the
PTO keeps on hand. Your scrip will be sent home every other Wednesday,
and you pay for it when you return your communication envelope on Thursday.

3.) Purchase grocery scrip before or after school or after Sunday masses
from the “live inventory.” Look for the “Scrip for
Sale” sign in the parking lot or at the coffee hour after Sunday
masses.
4.) Escrip – After paying a $10 registration fee, you may use
any credit card at participating merchants who will then donate a percentage
of the sale to the school. The list of merchants is limited, but includes
Whole Foods, Eddie Bauer, and a few other local stores. Go to www.escrip.com

In order to encourage participation, each school family in grades K-8
is obligated to purchase a minimum of $750 of Scrip each school year.
Pre-school families are required to purchase $250 worth of scrip. Let’s do the math: If 150 families each buy $750
of scrip during the year with an average profit to the school of 5%, we
make about $5,625. If 150 families buy the bulk of their groceries with
scrip at $200 twice a month for ten months, we make $30,000!! The second
equation looks much better for St. Catherine’s. So please…make
Scrip a habit and do your best to support the program this year.

top five ways to
help scrip
1. Sign up for a standing order.
You will receive your scrip order every two weeks via the Wednesday
envelope. This program makes it easiest for inventory management and you
almost always have scrip on hand for your shopping.
2. Register your Safeway card with our e-scrip program
Our school generally makes 1% from your Safeway purchases via e-scrip. We
make 3% when you purchase it direct via a standing order, but if your
Safeway card is registered, we capture any amount over what you used gift
cards for, ALL YEAR ROUND.
Via e-scrip, your $750 scrip purchase requirement nets our school $7.50
Via a standing order/gift card purchase your $750 scrip purchase requirement
nets our school $22.50.
3. Register five other friends or family members
Family members in other states or friends with children in another school
that does not have an active scrip program can contribute at least 1% of the
Safeway purchases to St. Catherines with no effort other than you providing
us with their Safeway Card number (not their phone number). Safeway staff
can assist you or your friends in retrieving your 11 digit Safeway number by

4. Use the Regular order form to purchase scrip for your non-grocery needs.
We
offer a great choice of gift cards via our Regular Order scrip purchase
option. Your will receive this order form via the Wednesday envelope. Return
it to school with a check for your order and your cards get delivered the
next week to you.
5. Make sure to purchase scrip via our live sales when you “run out”.
