St. Catherine of Siena School
September 20, 2017
Greetings St. Catherine Families,
It was wonderful seeing the upper grade families last night, and we are looking forward to seeing K-4 tonight for their Curriculum Night. A couple of you approached me last night with feedback on this new split night format - thank you! It was a busy night and I may not remember what you shared, so please email me with your feedback. Did you like the new format and why? (I'd love to hear from both sides) Were there any glitches or challenges? While it might not ever be a perfect schedule for everyone, we will certainly look at what we can do to make it the best it can be. Please feel free to share your thoughts with me.
A few things to mention this week...
Jog-a-thon Fundraiser Continues: Many thanks to all of the students/families who have secured pledges for the Jog-a-thon. It's not too late! There is one more 'Turn-in-Tuesday.' Please help us reach our goal of $25,000! There are lots of great prizes to win (don't forget that ever-popular donut truck...which will be coming in October this year)! The main event is Friday, September 29th. The students and teachers are busily planning their 'theme' for the day. We are looking for volunteers to help with the Jog-a-thon event. If you can help, please email Alexis Wood at: email@example.com. Thank you!
Student Hair Styles: There are so many things I love about my job - truly! Having to monitor the uniform and dress code, however, is probably at the bottom of the list of my favorite things to do - just not fun! But alas! It's something I do have to do. We are noticing a trend with student hair styles recently (mostly in the upper grades) - some students, both boys & girls, are coming to school with hairstyles/cuts that are not within the school dress code. In particular, we see students with bleached/dyed/colored hair (mainly on parts of the hair, not their full head), designs or shapes shaved into the hair, and boys' hair lengths that are longer than permitted. We are asking for your help with this and that you review the family handbook (page 18) for acceptable hair guidelines. If your child is not within these guidelines, please take measures to comply with the policy. At the beginning of October, I will begin contacting parents of students who are still out of compliance. I know that the uniform and dress code is generally an unfavorable topic. However, we are a school with such a policy and it's important that we follow it. I sincerely appreciate your help and support!
Regional High School Information Nights: Each fall, the local Catholic high schools hold open houses for prospective students and their families in grades 6-8. The Archdiocese also hosts regional information nights at various schools in the area. Representatives from each of the high schools attend and give short presentations. Here is a schedule of those regional information sessions and their locations. In addition, here is the admissions calendar for all the Catholic high schools, which includes information about open houses, entrance testing, and deadlines specific to that school.
Parent Club 2017-18: The St. Catherine Parent Club plays a vital role in the success of our school, and we are so thankful to have their support! We thought it might be helpful to list the Parent Club representatives for this year. They are happy to help answer questions and provide guidance to you throughout the year:
Parent Blub Board
President: Colleen Ferguson
Vice President & Event Coordinator: Karin Herman
Treasurers: Alexis Wood, Siobhan Piechowski
Secretary: Darcie Wells
Jog-a-Thon: Alexis Wood

School Directory: Several parents have asked about the status of the school/family directory. The directory is a HUGE job that requires the return of all the family demographic forms before it can be completed. It is almost done and we anticipate it will be ready to send home in next week's family envelope. Thanks very much for your patience!
Congratulations to this week's Tiger Paws winners:
Chloe C. (1st), Darragh P. (4th), and Will S. (7th). Thank you for being a Paws-itive role model for others!
Have a great St. Catherine day!
Peace & Blessings,
