From Our Principal
Greetings St. Catherine Families,
A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to Debbie Amsbary and her team of 4th grade parents who helped to coordinate last Saturday's Irish Pub Night! Attendance was high and everyone had a wonderful evening! Thank you for all your work!!

Important Date Change: Originally, our annual Celebration of Learning and Art Walk was scheduled for April 27th , but due to scheduling conflicts we need to move that event to Tuesday, April 4th from 6:00-7:30. This is a wonderful community event that serves as an open house for both current and prospective families. Our students' work will be on display and families are invited to visit the classrooms to check out all the amazing learning happening in our school. Our students' art work and middle school science projects will be on display in Victoria Hall. Best of all...there is free food! Please put this new date (April 4 th ) on your calendar. Bring a new/prospective family with you and each child in your family will receive a free dress pass! Don't miss out - There will be so much to see!
Auction Procurement Deadline: The auction procurement deadline of Friday, April 7 th is fast approaching! Please be sure to get your required donation in by the deadline (K-8 $200 value), (PreK $100 value). Those not received on time will be invoiced. As you know, the auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year, which helps us to keep tuition and fees at a reasonable and competitive rate for our families. Tickets are also on sale now, and can be purchased here or by returning the RSVP card (invites went home in last week's Wed envelope). The price jumps from $80 to $95 after April 7th. World Down Syndrome Day & Fashion Show: Yesterday we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day in honor of our amazing St. Catherine students who have Down Syndrome. The teachers took the opportunity to teach the students more about Down Syndrome, and the students enjoyed a treat in celebration. Thank you to the Winfield family and Top Pot Doughnuts for providing yummy doughnuts for everyone! This Saturday, St. Catherine is hosting the 2nd annual Down Syndrome Community Fashion Show in Victoria Hall at 6:00 - featuring our very own Kate Veccheit, Kate Winfield, and Emma Chudzik! See the bulletin for more information.
Science Fair Judges Needed! We are in great need of volunteers to help judge the upcoming middle school science fair. You do not have to be a scientist or have a science background. Many judges in the past claimed to "no nothing about science" and were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Here are the details Date: April 4th Where: Victoria Hall Time: 8:45am - 1:00pm (Note: judges are not required to be there the entire time. It is totally up to what your schedule will allow. Judge projects for one or four hours, but come be a judge. If you are not able to, please consider forwarding this to anyone who might be interested. Neighbors, friends, relatives, anyone else you can think of that might want to help. Incentive #1: Service hours offered. Incentive #2: Coffee, water, and a variety of light snacks will be available. Incentive #3: Parents with students younger than 8th grade will get an in depth view of example projects for rising middle school science students. Can you help? Sure you can! Please email Mrs. Payne to volunteer at firstname.lastname@example.org
Help needed to set up for the Art Walk: Mrs. Hartley is also looking for volunteers to help her prep and hang students' art work in Victoria Hall on the morning of April 4th. So anyone who is willing judge at the science fair, she could really use your help too while you are there. Or, if you aren't judging, she can still use your help! Please email her at email@example.com
No nut reminder: It's a good time to remind families that any treat or food sent to school that will be shared with other students may not contain any nut products (including birthday treats and bake sale items). This includes peanuts, peanut & almond butter, peanut oil, and other nuts. We have students with severe nut allergies and any interaction with such foods (ingesting or even touching them) can cause a severe, life threatening allergic reaction. Thank you for your help!
Good Friday...Unplugged! All of the K-8 Catholic schools in the North Seattle Deanery (11 total) are collaborating on a special project for Good Friday. To honor the solemnity and reverence of this holy day, each school has agreed to participate in a day to 'Unplug.' We are asking students, staff, and families to 'unplug' and shut off all electronic devices for the day (from the time that they wake in the morning until 6:00 pm that evening). This includes cell phones, computers, copy machines, radios, televisions, and turning off all non-essential lights (of course we will leave certain lights on here at school for safety reasons and will still answer the main phone line). The students will attend Stations of the Cross in the church at 11:00, hosted by the 7th grade class. Immediately following, the students and parents will be asked to leave the church in silence and stay in silence until they leave the school grounds after the noon dismissal. During an age when we are constantly bombarded with noise, technology, and a flutter of activity, what a wonderful opportunity (or excuse) to slow down and stay quiet for a day. I don't know about you, but I love being able to say that I can't turn on my computer or cell phone for a whole day! Of course, we can't force families to do this outside of school, but in the spirit of the day, we hope that you will join us in a quiet and unplugged observation of Good Friday. Thank you!
Staff Change for Next Year: It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Mrs. Kimble recently announced that she will not be returning to St. Catherine next year as the 1st grade teacher. She has chosen to leave the classroom so that she is able to devote more time to her family. Please know that this was a very difficult decision, one that did not come easily for her. We are grateful for Mrs. Kimble's years of service to our students and community. She will be truly missed. Please take a moment to read over her attached letter. In the weeks to come, we will be posting the open position, screening qualified candidates, and conducting interviews with the aid of a team of St. Catherine teachers and staff. Knowing the critical importance of this position, our search will be focused on finding a new teacher who will carry on the tradition of academic excellence established by Mrs. Kimble and one who will create a supportive and loving classroom environment for your students next year. Mrs. Katsandres, the 1st grade instructional assistant, has worked closely with Mrs. Kimble for a number of years and has a tremendous amount of knowledge with regards to the 1 st grade program. Her knowledge and experience will be a valuable support for the new teacher. I am confident that we will attract many qualified and enthusiastic applicants.Thank you for supporting Mrs. Kimble in her decision and feel free to email or call me if you should have any questions as we navigate this process.
Congratulations to our only Tiger Paws winner this week (the 3rd - 5th and 6th -8th boxes didn't have any in them yet)...Victoria F. (K). Thank you for being a Paws-itive role model to others!
Have a great St. Catherine Day!
Peace & Blessings,
From Our Development Director
