St. Catherine of Siena Parish Elementary School Commission
Purposes and Functions
The commission is established by the Pastor/PLD in accord with Archdiocesan
policy, to assist him/her and the Principal in policy development and
long range planning for the school. When the commission meets as Pastor/PLD,
Principal and members, and agrees on a policy matter, the decision is
effective and binding on all. The commission will be consulted prior to
decisions being made in its areas of responsibility.
It is the responsibility of the commission to make recommendations in
the following areas:
A. Planning
- Establishing a mission statement for the school
- Establishing commission goals for the year
- Establishing future plans for the school including long range and short
term goals
B. Policy Development & Evaluation
- Formulating policies which give general direction for the Pastor/PLD
and Principal
- Periodically evaluating existing policies
C. Financing
- Developing plans/means to finance the school programs including: tuition,
development and fund-raising
- Assisting in preparing the annual budget
- Monitoring the budget
D. Public Relations and Development
- Communicating with various groups about the school
- Listening to the needs and concerns of the public through appropriate
forums set up for this purpose
- Recruiting students
- Promoting the school to the parish and parents
E. Evaluation
- Evaluating the commission’s own effectiveness
- Determining whether commission goals and plans are being met
Meetings
Monthly meetings are generally held Wednesday evenings from 7 pm until 8:30
pm in the Siena Center. Please check with the principal or school commission
president prior to attendance, as some meetings, particularly the budget meeting
may not be open meetings.

Accreditation
For the past two years our
school has been conducting a self study project
in order to become accredited by the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges, and by the Western Catholic Educational Association. In October
2006 the school published its self-study report.
