Masses
At least once a month, an all-school Mass is held. Using a rotating
calendar of responsibilities, each class experiences the process of
planning for a particular part of the mass: creating banners, choosing
songs, gifts, readings, petitions, and thank you prayers. Fr. Tony and
Victoria Ries, Pastoral Life Director, directly interact with the students
to bring home the meaning of the Gospel at their level of understanding.
Prayer Services & Special Assemblies
At the beginning of the school year, Victoria Ries leads the whole
school in a blessing of the students, faculty and building. Similar
types of prayer services and paraliturgical celebrations are scheduled
to celebrate important feasts in the Liturgical Year. Major days of
national celebration are also included. Teaching about these important
days and involving children in the planning fosters both understanding
and appreciation for one's religious and national heritage.
Altar Serving
Giving service to the parish through serving at Mass is available to
students in grades 5 - 8. Children making this choice are trained and
scheduled for the monthly commitments.
Service
Throughout the year, St. Catherine School responds to the needs of
others in a variety of ways: food, blanket drives; visits to a nursing
home and other outreach projects. St. Catherine Students are given the
opportunity to participate in the Sparrow Club, which serves as a vehicle
for helping a child with a life-threatening illness. Our Sparrow beneficiary
is Jesse, a young boy who is dealing with brain cancer.
